Many creators are on several other platforms. Pick a creator that you are already familiar with. Or check their other profiles to get a fuller picture of what they do.
Many creators have a first level subscription option that is very affordable. And you can cancel before you are charged for 5he next month if it is not what you want.
In my experience patreons are happy with the service and tend to upgrade after the first month in order to gain the additional benefits. It is a different experience in most cases, because most creators offer communication with them directly. This is probably the biggest reason I find patreons stay.
